Gas Detectors & Analyzers

Gases were applied in industrial and commercial spheres since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, starting with natural gas utilized as a power source to special gas mixtures in lab tests. There are, however, some flammable, explosive, or poisonous substances that pose a serious threat to human life, but cannot be distinguished without the aid of specialized equipment. Devices like gas detectors and gas analyzers were developed specifically to distinguish concentrations of such substances that exceed the allowed limit and prevent accidents that may occur as a consequence.

A gas detector is a specialized gadget that can distinguish gases present in the breathing air. These gadgets are most frequently used as a supplementary division of a safety system in a commercial building. They can detect leakage of toxic or explosive gases or depletion of breathing air and transmit the signal about it to the working personnel, as well as interact with the safety system and override the gas system controls. There are two construction types of these gadgets. The first type is small man-portable gas detectors that can be handheld or worn as a part of the equipment on a body. These personal gadgets provide sound and visual signals to a person if a dangerous amount of a specific monitored gas was detected. The second type is a mounted gas detector. It is usually installed in large storage rooms, near ventilation systems, control rooms, or areas that should be protected from any gas leaks.

There are many different technologies that may be utilized in detecting gases. Electrochemical gas detecting devices have special filters that produce electricity proportional to the volume of gas that passed through the filter. These filters can be tuned to be sensitive to different types and concentrations of gases. Another type has infrared sensors that analyze the emitted radiation and quantify the amount of gas present in the air. Some detectors use semiconductors to detect gases when they contact a special sensor. Other devices use sound waves to detect changes in the surrounding space. And finally, there are holographic detectors. They have a special matrix that absorbs light in the scanned space. If air composition is changed, the reflection is also changed due to the different lengths of light waves.

Gas analyzers have a somewhat similar working principle, but they are also able to analyze the type and the volume of hazardous gas present in the air. These devices are extremely useful in industries working with hazardous gases because by detecting and preventing gas leaks, they save people’s lives. Mega Depot offers a wide selection of gas detectors and gas analyzers suited for detecting a great variety of dangerous gases. You can choose products from GfG Instrumentation, Kitagawa, Kanomax, Testo, Wohler, Viasensor, and more. You will find the right product for your specific application on Mega Depot.
